If you somehow ended up here without knowing what this FreeBSD is...

Its is an advanced BSD UNIX operating system for "PC-compatible" computers. It of course also has a homepage, take a look there if you want to know more. (Und hier steht auch was auf deutsch.)

Have a look at BSD's little mascot, the daemon... (On UNIX, a daemon is a program that is (usually) loaded all the time, waiting to do useful things. Every UNIX system running in normal operation has a bunch of those.)
